What to Wear to ALL Those Summer Weddings

2 weddings down, 4 more to go! Yup, 'tis the season for ALL the weddings and the constant question of "what are we wearing?" Weddings are probably the only occasion when it becomes a what are WE wearing situation vs. each of us fending for ourselves. Somehow boys have it really easy though; a switch of a tie or jacket and tah-dah... new outfit! Hopefully your calendar isn't nearly as booked as ours but in case it is, here are a few tips that have gotten me through wedding season the past few years:
Dark Florals FTW
With summer weddings, especially outdoor venues, it's sometimes hard to gauge how "summery" you can go or how dressed-up to get. I swear, my biggest fear is walking into a wedding dressed in an all black super glam situation when everyone else is wearing tea dresses and wedges. Probably because I did that once! It was a family friend's wedding and I never saw the invitation (thanks Mom!) but apparently it was noted on the invite that the wedding and much of the reception would take place on grass so to wear appropriate shoes. Guess who walked in in 4" SILK stilettos and a black cocktail dress? I know, the worst. On the other hand, god forbid walking into a wedding in summer's brightest florals and everyone is wearing dark hues. The risk free option is DARK FLORALS! The floral print x dark palette is the perfect mix of "hey, I didn't try too hard and I look perfectly appropriate for this situation!" Another tip: I always carry a really bold red lipstick with me in case I need to amp up the look. The best part about the dark floral dress is that you can easily re-wear it for brunch or any summer event with flat sandals.

RENT A DRESS
My go-to for many occasions, especially weddings, is The Stylist LA. They have TONS of options for weddings from designers like Stylestalker, Nightcap, Parker, and ASTR. If you're in LA or SF they have showrooms you can pop-in to and check out/try on dresses. They also ship throughout the US!
NAVY BLUE
Tasked with dressing you and your beau? Same. Never underestimate the power of navy blue. Yes, black is always safe BUT with outdoor weddings sometimes black is just too much. Plus, when you have TONS of weddings to go to it's nice to change it up. Most guys own a navy blue suit or a blazer/coat which makes it super easy to pair with chinos and a white dress shirt. Find yourself a navy dress and you have complimentary city! These are the outfits we wore to the Austin Wedding we went to a few weeks ago and it was almost too easy to put together.

When in doubt, shop your closet!
You'd be surprised to find what's hiding back in the fancy dress section of your closet. Also, to be honest, most people won't remember that you wore it to last year's wedding; we're our worst IG critiques! Change up the hair + makeup and treat yourself to a new pair of shoes then all of a sudden you have a brand new wedding look! Happy wedding guesting!
