Decorating A Spanish Style Home with Modern Boho Elements
It’s been about three months since we moved into our first home (eek!) and slowly but surely it’s coming together. (See an unfurnished tour here.) As we were prepping for the move I had all these grand ideas that everything would be DONE within the first two months - boy was I kidding myself. Decorating your first home is a serious endeavor but oh so fun. Our house is a Spanish style 3 bed/ 2 bath with abundant outdoor space. What’s our interior design vibe? Well, my goal is to make sure it feels modern but also pulls in those Spanish elements with textures and colors. We still have SO MUCH to do: coffee table, bar stools, wall art, bedroom decor, window treatments, and outdoor furniture to name a few. Here’s the latest and greatest though:
Thankfully our couch and decorative pillows from our old apt. work perfectly in our living room. Check that off the never ending list of furniture items to buy! We got this couch maybe 3 -4 years ago from a now defunct store on Melrose and it continues to serve us well. As we were deciding on new furniture pieces in the back of my mind I kept reminding myself that we’re expecting our first baby in just a few months. It’s only a matter of time before we have a 2 yr. old running around and making a mess of everything. That’s why when I found the Ester wood arm chair from Target I immediately jumped on it (three times!). It looks VERY similar to a pricey Room + Board chair but comes in at just under $300 and Target runs sales on it often. The color in our living room is ‘natural wood’ and in our bedroom we have ‘millbrook husk.’ It’s very comfortable- highly recommend. Our rug is from RUGS USA - my go-to for rugs over the past few years. It took us two tries to get the rug right. Side note: returning rugs is a pain in the butt! You’ll notice a few Leanne Ford x Crate + Barrel pieces throughout our house like the console and baskets. I’m OBSESSED with everything from the line! Etsy has been my go-to for finding pampas grass and unique details for our place.
LIVING ROOM DECOR
Our kitchen and dining area still have a long way to go. What you don’t see is our bare bar because I cannot make a decision on bar stools. I’m also pretty sure I’m going to swap out the dining chairs with something else as well. Not to mention art on the walls! Decisions, decisions. If you follow me on IG then you saw that we went through FOUR dining tables before landing on this beauty from West Elm (it’s currently 30% off). We were having a hard time finding the right wood color to go with our cool, white oak floors and also something that wasn’t TOO mid-century modern. I never imagined having a grey table but I love how it compliments the flooring and also pulls from grey tile details we have throughout the house. The Cane Bar cabinet was a big splurge for us but isn’t it just TO-DIE FOR? She makes a serious statement. We were also in need of a place to store our liquor and glassware, so she makes perfect sense or at least that’s how I convinced my hubby we needed to have it.
Kitchen Decor
Just a few details from throughout our house. My main focus has really been the living areas, so the bedrooms haven’t been getting that much love. And now that baby is just 2 months away I’m all about the nursery. Can’t wait to share what we’ve been cooking up!
Current go-to spots for budget friendly home decor are: Etsy, Target, and H&M home. Also shoutout to Month of May Linens (owned by an EDPfam babe) for the gorgeous throw we have in our bedroom (see it below).
Small Decor Items That Pack a Punch
While I have yet to tackle our backyard and side yard spaces the first “corner” of our place that is almost entirely done is what we call the nook; a little outdoor seating area off the side of our bedroom. Target has been my go-to for almost every piece (I brought home the hanging macrame from a trip to La Paz, Mexico.)
As we continue to decorate I’m always updating my shoppable LTK page. It’s probably the best place to check out the latest and greatest until we have everything finished which probably won’t be for many month. xo - Ash
