It's a Girl! And Some Second Trimester Updates
We’re having a girl and to be honest, we’re totally shocked. Sure, it’s a 50/50 chance but I felt SO strongly by my lack of pregnancy symptoms that we were having a boy (those old wives tales!); we had boy names picked out and everything! Even our OB thought she saw something (ie: boy parts) during the ultrasound we had pre-blood test results. Never the less, here we are: expecting a little girl in 20 weeks.
I CANNOT even comprehend that this little one is already half baked. Time is flying! It’s ironic because when you’re deep in those first 10-12 weeks time also feels like it’s moving at a glacial pace - it’s truly an emotional rollercoaster as I shared in this candid post.
If you’ve been following along on IG you know we recently bought and moved into our first home which has taken all of my physical and emotional energy. And because I haven’t been hit with any real pregnancy symptoms, I sometimes I have to remind myself there’s a baby in my tummy! I’m hoping we can get settled sooner rather than later so I can focus a little more on this muffin growing inside of me. I thought I’d share a few updated from this trimester (keep scrolling). Btw, if you’re a mama-to-be or already have a little don’t forget about the EDP MAMAS Facebook group. It’s a really great community of gals sharing loads of helpful info.
How Far Along?
20 weeks! Halfway there and it’s mind blowing. I recently told a friend that I’m sad that it’s halfway over because I have really enjoyed being pregnant. Obvi, can’t wait to meet her but my preggers mamas know what I mean.
Weight Gain/ Food Aversions or Cravings?
4 lbs. which is on par for by OB’s recommended 25 lb. pregnancy weight gain. My tummy is not looking too huge yet but it’s definitely growing at a rapid pace. My first trimester hunger has plateaued significantly and I’m just trying to eat little meals every few hours. So far no aversions or crazy cravings - I’ve honestly had zero pregnancy symptoms which I’m so grateful for. Because I haven’t been drinking I feel so clear headed and have amazing energy. Pregnant Ashley is almost a better version of non-pregnant Ashley. I’m missing wine like whoah though!
Maternity Clothes?
Just got my first maternity set from this cute new brand called Waverleigh. I’ve been trying really hard to shop my closet as much as possible until I absolutely have to. Sharing all my bump style looks over on IG under the #EDPbumpstyle if you’re looking for inspo. TBH, still trying to navigate the whole pregnancy dressing especially since my bump has officially made an appearance but so far I’m enjoying showing off all the new curves. (here are the 5 things I bought in my first trimester)
Sleep?
Normal, thank goodness! I’m a side sleeper so haven’t really been impacted by the post 20 week "no back” sleeping policy.
Best Moment This Week / Weird Pregnancy Moment?
Grouped these two together because my best moment was also sort of weird. Belly popped which was so fun to see and because of that I had my first stranger comment at the grocery store. It’s mind blowing how people feel so comfortable making comments on women’s bodies when they’re pregnant. So many of the EDPfam and my friends have warned me about it but whoah, I felt a little violated. And this woman didn’t mean anything by it, she was so nice but you would NEVER walk up to a non-pregnant stranger and make a comment/ask them questions about their body the way people do when you’re pregnant!
Baby Movement?
Unclear. My doc said probably not until 21 weeks but I think I’ve felt some flutters… maybe gas though? Hah!
What I’m Nervous about?
Time’s flying! I feel like I have a laundry list of books to read, classes to take, things to buy, etc. and that feels overwhelming. Part of me also just wants to ride this experience and let it flow vs. being overly prepared.
If we’re being honest, the thought of giving birth is also mildly frightening but we’ll save that convo for another day.
