Don’t Make These 5 Mistakes When Creating Your Baby Registry

Recently I shared all the deets on my Bump Bestie: the woman who is guiding us through a never ending list of baby products, helping us navigate the 4th trimester team, and acting as a sounding board for everything in between. Her name is Molly and we’re in constant communication re: everything baby prep. I cannot say enough good things about her and her business. You can check out her services + menu here. Don’t forget the EDPfam gets 10% off any service with code EDP10.

One of the first things Bump Bestie did for us was deliver our registry. When I opened it for the first time all I could think was “OMG, we need ALL these things"?” and then I thought “THANK GOD I didn’t have to research all of these products myself! “ Decision paralysis is real when it comes to this whole baby prep thing; there’s just SO MANY products to choose from. Whether you’re putting together your registry yourself or leaning on the support of Bump Bestie’s Registry Checklist, we put together the top five things to keep in mind when creating your baby registry. Keep scrolling for tips and some of the top items that EDP Mamas are raving about!

The Best Tips for Creating Your Baby Registry

The Best Tips for Creating Your Baby Registry

1.Don’t Wait Until It’s Too Late

Most families start their research once they know the gender - and if it’s a surprise Bump Bestie recommends starting at 12 and 16 weeks. In a perfect world, you’ll have everything you need and the nursery completed by 36 weeks in case baby decides to make an early appearance.

2. Focus on the BIG ticket Items

Yes, baby clothes are the cutest but in the grand scheme of things they are pretty inexpensive. Don’t overload your registry with low cost items (clothes, books, pacifiers, etc.) or you may not get the items you REALLY need. We can all agree those big ticket items would be great to receive as a gift and not spend all the monies on.

3. One Size Fits All Registry Doesn’t Exist

Every baby and parent is different. If you want that wipe warmer and someone else tells you that you don’t need it, do what makes you happy. It’s great to get recs from friends but ultimately you need to personalize a registry for YOU. I definitely suggest leaning on an unbiased party like Bump Bestie; she’s a great resource and has tons tips/ the mother of all Registry Checklists to get you started.

4. Don’t Forget About Mom + Dad

It’s completely appropriate to include items for recovery, meals and other services. I know gals who put new wine glasses on their registry - YOU DO YOU, mama! Hot tip: don’t forget gift cards to food delivery services like Ubereats and Postmates. They will definitely come in handy.

5. Remember the Gear has to live somewhere

For such tiny humans, babies require a lot of gear. If you live in a small space or just want to avoid a ton of clutter you can limit your registry to must-have items for the first 6 months. ie: Do you need that high chair sitting in your corner from day one? Maybe not!
